In a recent 20-year period, over 150 Nevada residents have died from asbestos related diseases and hundreds more have fallen ill with these serious diseases. Asbestosis and mesothelioma cancer are two of the most serious diseases that can result from exposure to asbestos. Asbestosis is a serious but non-cancerous disease of the lungs that does not always lead to death if caught and treated early.

Mesothelioma, on the other hand, is almost always fatal. Mesothelioma cancer, which attacks the lining of the heart, abdominal organ or lungs, is often difficult to diagnose and treat. However, a mesothelioma treatment center is the best resource for comprehensive care of this form of asbestos-related cancer.

Asbestos Exposure in Nevada

Some of the highest risks of asbestos exposure in Nevada come from working in power plants, of which our state has at least a dozen. Electricians, pipe fitters, boilermakers, construction crews, oil refinery workers, and maintenance personnel are among those workers at greatest risk of contact with asbestos. Asbestos is found in hundreds of products, including wiring, building materials, roofing, siding, insulation, cement, and even safety gear. It has long been prized for its insulating, fire resistant, sound proofing, and strengthening qualities. Asbestos poses a threat to human health when it is compromised and becomes airborne, at which point people may inhale or ingest invisible fibers in the atmosphere.

If you or a loved one has been exposed to asbestos, it is a good idea to seek routine health check ups. If you develop symptoms or have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you can receive top of the line care at a mesothelioma treatment center in Nevada.
